It was Many and Many a Year Ago ... when I was first introduced to my favorite author,

Edgar Allan Poe.

He has written some of the most screwed up, profound, incredible pieces of work in history.

I love him.

I recall reading the words of Poe for the first time at the tender age of ten and I've been hooked

on him ever since. 'Twas the poems of Poe and the story of the Tell Tale Heart that I entertained my

classmates with on the playground in Grade School and it was Annabel Lee that I memorized at the age

of twelve while laying in the grass beneath the limbs of the outstretched forest trees ... barefoot and in a

sundress with squirrels scampering around me. I was so careful not to bend the pages of my most

treasured book .... and all the while, a tiny orange kitten who had followed me so far into the woods,

sat next to me in the fallen leaves to playfully paw at my long yellow hair

while I read the words of Poe in my magical wonderland ...

(totally true and most fond memory)

and it was Annabel Lee which I proudly recited for a College English Professor in later years while fellow

students fixed their stares upon me as if I was the strangest anomaly to capture their attentions.

(I still get that reaction from people)

Laura's first Poe book ... it has seen its better days
